Chessington bids farewell to Bubbleworks

The iconic dark ride will make its final voyage at the Surrey based theme park after 26 years of operation.

The closure of the ride will pave the way for a new addition for next year, with the “factory under new management from March 2017”.

Since opening in 1990, the ride has carried over 32 million guests around 15 million circuits of its layout.

The park ran an auction to sell off some of the ride’s most popular props and signage, with one of the items racking up a bid of well over £1,000. Proceeds from the auction were sent to Merlin’s Magic Wand charity.

On the iconic ride’s closure, Tim Harrison Jones, Divisional Director at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, said: “We received an overwhelming response to the news that Bubbleworks is closing with visitors sharing hundreds of memories from their time on the ride.

“Bubbleworks has been a much-loved ride here at Chessington, but we feel now is the time to bid farewell to the bubbles and introduce something brand new and equally magical for families.”

The resort are yet to confirm the intellectual property behind the 2017 re-theme.
