Broadcast communications regulator OFCOM have reported that over 1,000 complaints have been placed after the controversial interview last week.
The interview with Sky News presenter, Kay Burley and Merlin Entertainments CEO, Nick Varney, took place on 5 June, and has since racked up 1,002 complaints.
During the interview, Ms Burley repeatedly accused several of Merlin Entertainment’s roller coasters of being unsafe after two trains collided on The Smiler on 2 June.
After the interview had been broadcast, hundreds of shocked viewers took to social media to air their views at Ms Burley’s interviewing techniques, whilst also praising Mr Varney for his handling of both the situation and the interview.
Appalling, cheap, lazy and discgraceful reporting from @KayBurley on the accident (repeat accident) at Alton Towers. Nick Varney, well done.

@KayBurley Full quodos to the Nick Varney, Merlin. Many would have terminated the interview and walked.

A petition to have Kay Burley sacked from Sky News was also formed shortly after the broadcast was complete, which has now attracted over 26,000 supporters.
