Four of the Merlin Entertainments operated roller coasters are set to be closed whilst new safety protocols are issued.
The accident that occurred on The Smiler on Tuesday afternoon has led to the Alton Towers theme park closure for three days, as health and safety investigations continue.
On a wider scale, the accident has now led to three other roller coasters across Merlin Entertainments ran parks being closed.
The Smiler – Alton Towers Resort
SAW: The Ride – THORPE PARK Resort
Dragon’s Fury – Chessington World of Adventures Resort
Rattlesnake – Chessington World of Adventures Resort
The ride closures come as the peak summer period is about to set at the theme parks. Chessington have had a turbulent season with ride closures, rarely opening its gates without a single ride closure since the park opened for the year back in March.
Despite the ongoing investigations surrounding the horrific incident on The Smiler, Alton Towers have confirmed they will reopen in the coming days.
