2015 in the UK attraction industry: What’s coming? Part 2


The 2015 season for our attractions will soon be upon us. Join Airgates as we take a look at what’s coming this year.

The closed season blues are set to come to an end this month, as the British theme parks and amusement parks get ready to fling their gates open to the guests once again.

Alongside the current line up of favourite thrill machines and family fun, several brand new additions will be opening for the first time across the UK:

LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre

LEGO Movie 4D


Guests visiting the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Manchester will soon be treated to a brand new 4D film in the 4D Studios. Partnering with Warner Brothers, the attraction will see the introduction of a new film based on The Lego Movie. Combining wind, water, smoke and special lighting effects, the new film will bring some of the popular big screen characters such as Emmet and Wildstyle to the midway attraction situated at the intu Trafford Centre, alongside current guests favourites Clutch Powers, and Legends of Chima.


Expanded Driving School [13th March]

The Driving School is undoubtedly one of the most popular attractions at the park, and the 2015 season will see an expansion to the LEGO City based ride. With an additional fleet of Fiat sponsored cars arriving at the park, a new test lane will also debut allowing young, budding drivers to explore their new found skills on a larger track.

LEGO Friends® Hotel Rooms [27th March]

Each of the premium rooms will consist of vibrant colours and children will also receive a pop badge and lanyard.

LEGO Friends® will be arriving at the resort hotel with their very own premium hotel rooms. Ten rooms will be dedicated to the franchise, each complete with their very own clues to solve and will result in unlocking the very special LEGO safe in each room.

The rooms include:

  • Large double bed
  • Bunk bed plus pull-out bed (sleeps 3)
  • En-suite with bath and/or shower
  • 2 x TVs
  • Dedicated LEGO TV channel

Heartlake City [Summer]


LEGO Friends® are arriving at LEGOLAND Windsor at the brand new Heartlake City area. Friends characters  Mia, Andrea, Stephanie, Emma and Olivia, will all be on hand for meets and greets with guests. Joining them is a brand new Heartlake City themed mall, a live action music show, and several yet to be announced new additions.


Oakwood Theme Park

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow


Originally anticipated to open in Summer of 2014, The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow was set to be ‘”a major new ride experience” based in a new spooky area. Due to unexplained circumstances however, the new attraction has been pushed back to this year. With no further word on what this attraction will be, stay tuned with Airgates to find out all the information surrounding Oakwood’s latest investment as the news breaks.

Paultons Park

Critter Creek [Easter]


Crawling into Paultons Park this year is Critters Creek, a brand new family area opening in time for Easter. The area will be built up of plenty of theming such as crazy critters and peculiar plants. After a brief re-theme, The Stinger will now operate in its life known as The Cat-O-Pillar, alongside the brand new Expedition Express train ride that allows adventurers of all ages to view the various critters in the land.

Sherlock Holmes 4D


After screening for the first time during February Half Term, Sherlock Holmes will once again arrive in the Show Street Cinema. Guests who missed out on the event will be taken on a comedy-mystery tour of old Victorian London, courtesy of Dr Watson and the legendary detective himself.

Pleasurewood Hills

Hyper-Drive Dodgems [1st April]

An additional set of Dodgems (albeit, highly themed) are set to park up at the Suffolk based theme park. The concept art reveals a futuristic New York theme that will distinguish it from its smaller and older counterpart. You can read our full article on their latest development here.

Tayto Park

Cú Chulainn Coaster [Summer 2015]

Almost twenty years since the our Isles last constructed a wooden roller coaster, Tayto Park have stormed onto the map with a hugely appealing and thrilling design set to open later this Summer. Designed by the highly renowned American manufacturer Gravity Group, the roller coaster will feature Timberliner trains and will be somewhat draped in Irish mythology.


I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Maze [27th March]

THORPE PARK are inviting guests to become the latest in the celebrity line up of those brave enough to face the Australian jungle in this hit ITV show. Braving various iconic trails such as Catacombs of Doom, Vile Vineyard and the wild Celebrity Cyclone, guests will come face to face with some of the celebrities worst fears from the show presented by Ant and Dec, who will also be on hand to introduce the attraction to guests. Alongside these major additions across the midway attractions and theme parks, don’t forget to check out the various changes and additions that will be happening to the plethora of SEALIFE centres throughout the country. Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure is due to open in County Hall alongside the London Dungeons, SEALIFE and neighbouring London Eye (now sponsored by Coca Cola) in the Summer. Several parks will begin construction work over the year for their upcoming projects including Paultons Park for their two new 2016 roller coasters, THORPE PARK for their 2016 dark ride as well as the ongoing movement to reopen Dreamland Margate.
