Blackpool Pleasure Beach are celebrating after winning a top regional award.

The 42-acre attraction scooped the ‘Best for Groups Award’ at the annual tourism event which recognises businesses who contribute to Lancashire’s overall economic success.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach was up against some stiff competition in four of the categories it was shortlisted in; Green Tourism, Best for Groups, the Retail Experience Award (for its Nick Shop in the heart of Nickelodeon Land) and Marketing Initiative Award. Notably, the park opened a new renovated themed attraction “Wallace & Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic” for the 2013 season.

The black-tie event was hosted by The Independent’s senior travel editor, Simon Calderheld at Blackburn Cathedral. Focussing solely on the successes of Lancashire attractions and businesses which contribute more than £3.4billion to the county’s economy, more than 300 guests and businesses attended, battling it out for 20 awards on a whole range of categories.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach Managing Director, Amanda Thompson OBE, succinctly stated: “We are delighted to win the Best for Groups Award at the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2013.
