Blackpool’s extraordinary light display: Illuminations, will run for an extra week this year following high demand.

Merlin Entertainments have funded an extra week of the light show: which will now run until the 10th November during the Autumn season.

Merlin states the the extended run will help businesses and give visitors more opportunity to see the famous lights.

28% of the visitors to Blackpool go expressly for the purpose of seeing the lights, studies show, making it the single most important reason for visits in the Autumn season.

Cllr Graham Cain, the cabinet member for tourism and culture, said: “Last year the Illuminations celebrated a 100 year anniversary and recently the Tower was illuminated in all its glory. The positive response we’ve had just shows how proud people are of the Illuminations and these visitor figures back up how important they are to the local economy as a key reason for bringing people to town.”

“I’m delighted that Merlin Entertainments has identified the huge benefit that the Illuminations brings businesses in the town by supporting this week extension.”
