Diamond addition to Legoland Windsor
To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee a new 10 cm high LEGO® model of Her Majesty The Queen took up residence in the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort’s famous Miniland, complete with a real diamond encrusted crown.
Specially commissioned by award winning jewellery designer, Dinny Hall, the tiny 1.5cm tall crown is made from silver, coated with precious rhodium and festooned with thousands of pounds worth of brilliant cut diamonds fit for a Queen. A special security guard has been hired in to keep a watchful eye on the valuable new addition during opening hours and the precious model will be safely locked up overnight.
The bejewelled figure, featuring 48 tiny cut diamonds, takes pride of place on the balcony of Miniland’s miniature recreation of Buckingham Palace. She is joined on the balcony by new figures of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
“We decided to make a new Miniland figure of Her Majesty for the Jubilee celebrations but wanted to do something extra special for such a momentous occasion,” explains Divisional Director, Sue Kemp. “As it’s her Diamond Jubilee the idea of giving our LEGO Queen a real diamond crown seemed very fitting and our talented model makers worked closely with Dinny Hall to create what must be one of the most unique – and smallest – crowns in the world; and one of the most valuable LEGO models!”
London based designer, Hall, who has created jewellery for many famous customers from Kate Winslet to Samantha Cameron, admits it is one of the most unusual but fun commissions she has ever received, and she took a long time in her workshop figuring out how to make it.
“I have designed for a really wide range of people over the years but creating a piece for a minute LEGO model has definitely been unique. Not only is it a very delicate headpiece, it needed to fit perfectly on to a model made from square bricks and, although under 2.5cm in diameter, it had to stand out within the Miniland landscape. We think we’ve created something subtly beautiful, sparklingly fun and definitely fit for a Miniland Queen.”
The new Miniland Royal Family including the Diamond Jubilee Queen will be greeting guests at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort throughout the Jubilee celebrations.
