Manchester’s Trafford Centre set to receive aquarium

Capital Shopping Centres have recently announced that its Manchester location, the Trafford Centre, is set to receive an aquarium attraction in the next few years.

Revealed in a trading statement, CSC PLC announced that they have “agreed terms with an operator, subject to planning permission, for a major new leisure attraction at Barton Square, Trafford Centre“. It is believed that said operator will be Merlin Entertainments, who already manage a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre at the mixed use site.

If the new leisure addition is indeed set to be run by Merlin, the aquarium will be the thirteenth branded Sea Life attraction in the United Kingdom. Barton Square has had a number of vacant lots since it first opened in 2008, with a large unused internal area directly opposite Merlin Entertainment’s current midway attraction at the Trafford Centre.
